Welcoming Burl Haigwood

Burl Haigwood has been a dedicated professional in the clean fuels industry for 30 years, working as a professional, volunteer, and advisor. With a strong entrepreneurial drive, he has been a fervent advocate for sustainable energy solutions in transportation fuels. His extensive experience includes coalition building, special event and project management, grant writing and fundraising, infrastructure development, spokesperson duties, and serving as a government affairs liaison for national, state, and local stakeholders.

His work with clean fuel stakeholders focuses on creating policies and programs that use public education to accelerate acceptance of alternative transportation fuels, thereby encouraging consumer behavior and stimulating private sector investment.

A strong advocate for clean fuel policies and regulations, Mr. Haigwood helped shape public policy initiatives, including the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, the oxygenated and reformulated gasoline programs, and the Energy Policy Acts which introduced the nation’s first Renewable Fuel Standard. Mr. Haigwood is now working with stakeholders to support the adoption of a national low carbon fuel standard for gasoline and diesel.

Mr. Haigwood co-authored Gasolinegate (New Degree Press, 2023) and Homegrown Defense: Biofuels & National Security. He also wrote several editions of The Fuel Ethanol Fact Book, various industry reports, and numerous articles during his tenure as Vice President of Operations at Information Resources, Inc., As Director of Program and Client Development at the Clean Fuels Development Coalition he created and coordinate special events such as the Safer Gasoline Campaign, Environmental Inaugural Ball, and the Flex Fuel Vehicle Club of America. He remains active on the advisory board of the Clean Fuels Foundation.
