Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Sustainability, the Sustainability Assistant works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to promote effective gardening and outreach initiatives to increase food production and pollinator distribution to improve the University’s impact on the environment as well as reducing food insecurity on our campus and in the community. Responsibilities include coordinating campus garden programming and activities related to the student vegetable and pollinator gardens; community outreach; assist management in setting targets for production; maintain roof-top gardens of WAEC and Science Building, and all plant collections; work with management to create a prioritized list of needs for sustainability projects; assist in data entry and stakeholder engagement for WV Clean Cities and Communities; assist with WV Clean Cities outreach and workshops; submit timely alternative fuel reports and prepare presentations/proposals as assigned; perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint); strong knowledge of plant species, propagation, and care; ability to save seeds; ability to relay information to students and the public in an easily understandable way; ability to troubleshoot technical issues on own; self-motivated team player with a positive attitude; excellent prioritization and organizational skills: strong written and verbal communication skills; accurate with strong attention to detail; dependable and able to work with minimal supervision.
